Stepping Into the New

Scripture Focus:
"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland." Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV)

Reflection:
Life-changing events can leave us feeling lost, as if navigating a desolate wilderness. While mourning is natural, God calls us to move forward, as stated in Isaiah 43:18-19, which involves not dwelling on the past but looking for the "new thing" God is doing. Moving forward requires a shift in perspective, focusing on God's provision rather than past, familiar landmarks. Through these transitions, God builds perseverance and maturity (James 1:2-4). Trust that He is creating a path forward, even when it is not immediately visible.

Cross-References for Further Study:

  • Joshua 1:9: Encouragement to be strong and courageous, knowing God is present.
  • Philippians 3:13-14: The encouragement to forget what is behind and press on toward the future.
  • Romans 8:28: The promise that God works all things together for good for those who are called to His purpose.

Steps to Move Forward:

  1. Acknowledge and Release: Be honest with God about your pain, then consciously surrender your desire to control the outcome (2 Corinthians 12:9).
  2. Shift Focus: Stop looking back at what was broken and look upward at the Master Builder who is creating something new (Colossians 3:1-2).
  3. Take One Small Step: Do not wait for complete healing to start walking. Actively engage in your life, even if it’s just one small step of obedience or service to someone else (Philippians 4:13).
