As we read God's word we can’t stop at Ephesians 5:2 (quoted below), we have to continue reading the entire 5th Chapter of Ephesians. There it is explained to us what is the type of person God wants us to be and what He views as appropriate and inappropriate behavior. It's made clear for us. It's given to us not as rules but as protection. Given to us as guidelines so we can enjoy the benefits and blessings from following God's word on appropriate behaviors and so we are kept safe from the harm those bad behaviors can bring to our lives.

Ephesians:4:31 - 5:2

"Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour."

Take time to read all of Ephesians Chapter Five.
