Study of Psalm 29:1-11
Psalm 29 is a majestic and powerful psalm that praises God's power and majesty. It is attributed to King David and is considered one of the most beautiful and expressive psalms in the Bible.
The psalm can be divided into three main sections:
1. Call to Worship Psalms 29:1-2
2. Description of God's Power Psalms 29:3-9
3. Declaration of God's Sovereignty Psalms 29:10-11
The Key Themes
- God's Power and Majesty: The psalm emphasizes God's power and majesty, using imagery from nature to describe His mighty works. God’s power and voice is the strongest.
- Worship and Praise: The psalm is a call to worship and praise God, recognizing His sovereignty and power over all creation. His voice has the power to strike fear in those who oppose Him and to convey love to those who follow Him.
- God's Sovereignty: The psalm declares God's sovereignty over all creation, emphasizing His authority and power over the world. God’s same power that raised Jesus from dead remains available to us to help us in our own daily life.
- God’s Strength: Remember when we feel weak, tired, when we are sick, going through difficulties God can give us strength to face any situation.
- God’s Comfort and Peace: when we read God’s word we are obtaining knowledge of how to live according to His way which is the right and only way to live. When we spend time with God in prayer, communicating with Him every day we are building a stronger relationship with Him.
- God’s many promises: There are 7,487 promises that God has given to man. This is about 85% of all the promises in the Bible. There are also 28 promises that were made by angels.
- A Few Examples of God's promises
- God promise to never flood the earth again. Genesis 9:11
- God promise to provide rest for the weary. Matthew 11:28
- God promise to prepare a home in eternity for his children. John 14:2
- God promise to be with us always. Matthew 28:20
- God promise to answer prayers. Matthew 7:7; Psalms 65:2
- God promise to work everything out for the good of his people. Romans 8:28

- Psalms 29:1 “Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength."
- Psalms 29:3 “The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord, over many waters."
- Psalms 29:10 “The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord sits enthroned as king forever."

- Trust in God's Sovereignty: The psalm reminds us to trust in God's sovereignty and power over all creation, even in the midst of uncertainty, heartache and suffering.

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, we come before You in awe and reverence, acknowledging Your power and majesty. We praise You for Your mighty works in creation and for Your sovereignty over all 9f creation. Help us to worship You in spirit and truth, and to live our lives in accordance with Your word and Your Instructions. Amen.
