One of the most beautiful verses in the Bible can be found in Isaiah 30:18 “Therefore the Lord is waiting to show you mercy, and is rising up to show you compassion, for the Lord is a just God. All who wait patiently for him are happy.” What a beautiful picture this gives us of our God, the One true God over the universe, The Sovereign King over all creation is literally “waiting” even longing to show us mercy and compassion. It gives the view that our Heavenly Father is always in a posture of waiting for every opportunity to be compassionate and loving toward us. He is always looking, longing and expecting to have the opportunity to show us how much He loves us by showing us mercy, kindness, love and grace.
This reminds me of the story of the prodigal son in Luke 15:11-32 We are told about how the father waited on his son who had been rebellious to find his way and come home. When the son was approaching home the father took off running to greet his son. Similarly our Father in heaven, our God waits and watches for us to come home to His waiting arms so He can pour out His love, His compassion and His mercy on us. I don’t know what those who may read this could be facing in their life right now but I hope it encourages everyone to know that God is truly there waiting for us to come to Him and He glorifies Himself by pouring out mercy on our life, it delights Him to show us grace and love.
Why does He wait? Because something in us may hinder Him. We cannot receive spiritual blessings until we are capable to receive them by our faith. God has a right time, He discerns our moral and spiritual condition. He waits as a full work to fit us to receive His grace. He who prepares a place for us also prepares us for the place. He is making us ready to possess His highest blessings. How blessed are we that long for God, long to be near Him and to have a close relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. What a blessing it is to have His Word, The Holy Scripture available to us to read, study, absorb into our hearts and then apply to our life. I pray that we always have our hearts ready to receive God’s love, compassion and mercy. Let us pray, “Heavenly Father, thank You that You are my God and my Savior. Thank You for the grace, love and mercy You have shown to me and to all who trust in Jesus Christ for salvation. I pray that those who are lost would repent and turn to Christ by trusting in His shed blood for the forgiveness of sins and life everlasting - to Whom be all honour and glory, forever and ever. It is in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ that we pray, AMEN”.
