“To serve or be served" studying God's word in Mark 10:45 we are told that Jesus, the son of God didn't come to be served but came to serve and minister to others. Think about that..... "For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many." Mark 10:45. Jesus, our Lord God gives us a loving example of servitude to others and we too must remember to live our life in servitude to others. From healing the sick and possessed, washing the feet of his disciples to laying down His life to be tortured , beat and die a gruesome death on the cross for the sins of the world, John 3:16; 1 John 2:1-2; John 12:32. Jesus shows us what real love and servitude is.
When we serve others it is an act of worship and devotion to our heavenly Father, Colossians 3:23-24. When we serve others it is seen as directly following the example of Jesus Christ and is seen as an act of humanity. When we serve others we are essentially serving God. When we serve others we are expressing our love for God and for our neighbors. Loving our neighbors is aligned with our core Christian belief. Matthew 22:37-40; John 13:34.
When we are honest we all will admit that we can do better when it comes to being a servant with a cheerful heart . We do realize that some people may have health limitations and some times are more difficult than other times. It is at those times we may have to serve spiritually with prayer. However, we should always have a servant’s heart and want to serve our Lord Jesus Christ by being in service to others and work daily to share God's love. We must have faith and pray for God to strengthen us and give us the abilities to do His will in how He guides us to serve.
Here are a few ways we can serve others.
- Pray for each other Ephesians 6:18.
- Give encouragement 1 Thessalonians 5:11.
- Share and give to those in need Hebrews 13:16.
- Work with intention and joy Philippians 2:14-15.
- Spread God's Word Psalm 96:3.
