The Unchanging Giver
Scripture:
"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, neither shadow that is cast by turning." James 1:17
Reflection
It is easy to misinterpret the source of good things in our lives. When2 we experience joy, success, or provision, we might credit luck, hard work, or others. Conversely, when we face temptation or hardship, we might wrongly wonder if God is testing us or leading us astray. James 1:17 breaks through that confusion with a shining truth: Everything that is truly good and perfect comes from God.
God is described here as the "Father of lights"—the Creator of the sun, moon, and stars. Yet, unlike the sun, which sets, or the moon, which wanes and causes shadows to shift, God never changes. He is not moody, unpredictable, or fickle. His love, mercy, and generosity are constant.
This means that during both sunny days and stormy seasons, His character remains unwavering. Even when we cannot see the "good" in a situation, we can trust that the Giver is good, and His gifts are perfectly designed for our ultimate growth and eternal good.
Today, take a moment to look around. The beauty of nature, the love of family, the breath in your lungs, and most importantly, the gift of salvation, are all from Him.

Prayer
Father, thank You for being the source of all good and perfect gifts in my life. Thank You for the gifts I often take for granted—my health, my family, and the provision You give me daily. Most of all, thank You for the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. Help me to trust Your unchanging nature when my circumstances feel shaky. I praise You that You never change and that Your love for me is constant. I pray this in the name of Jess Christ, Amen.
