The Beginning and the End: A Story of Redemption
Read: Genesis 1–3, Revelation 21–22
Devotional Reflection:
The Bible is not just a collection of 66 stories; it is one cohesive narrative. From the very first words of Genesis, "In the beginning..." to the final promises of Revelation, God sets out to create, restore, and dwell with humanity. Genesis is the foundation, and Revelation is the completion.
- Genesis introduces the Garden Sanctuary; Revelation restores it. In Genesis, God creates a perfect home for humanity, but sin causes them to lose access to the Tree of Life. In Revelation 22, we see the Garden restored: the tree of life is there, the river of life flows, and God dwells among His people directly.
- Genesis introduces the fall; Revelation provides the remedy. In Genesis 3, the serpent brings deception, sin, and death into the world, breaking fellowship with God. Throughout the entire Old and New Testaments, we see God working to mend this break, culminating in Jesus, the "last Adam" who defeats the serpent, undoes the curse, and wipes away every tear.
- Genesis 1:3 says "Let there be light," and Revelation 21:23 says "the Lamb is its light." God’s creative, illuminating power is consistent. The darkness and chaos introduced in the Fall are finally and totally dispelled by the glory of God in the new heaven and new earth.
The story of the Bible is God's unwavering faithfulness. The same God who commanded light into existence in Genesis is the one who secures our eternal home in Revelation.
Prayer:
Lord Creator, thank You for holding the beginning and the end in Your hands. I praise You that You are not a God who abandons His creation. Thank You for having a plan to redeem, restore, and make all things new through Jesus Christ. Help me to trust You with my own beginning and end, knowing I am part of Your unfolding, beautiful story. I pray this in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
